Arthur Miller's play, The Crucible, a four-act drama is taught in the eleventh grade curriculum in this course. Students engage in project-based learning to write a fifth act in script form and then re-enact the newly created act bringing to life the dialogue and action of the play. This new act requires imagination and creativity, hallmarks of learning in the Common Core State Standards in English Language Arts. Students use rubrics to score each other's writing and performance and write a reflection based on what was experienced and learned in the unit. Surface computers would enhance this project in writing, editing, filming and presenting skills.
