Arminta Street School - PEACE Fund Contest

There is a growing push worldwide for students to be better prepared for their present and their future. The two areas that are being scrutinized the most are creativity and innovation. Creativity is the ability to generate a magnitude of ideas. While, innovation is the ability to implement the idea. Examples of innovation are everywhere. Throughout the course of one day people touch a multitude of objects that serve a need or function. Automobiles, tennis shoes, computers and mobile phones were all at one time a creative, innovative solution to a problem. It has been said that creativity is the motor that brings about social and economic change. When people say they want to change the world and make it a better place they seek out creative innovative designs. Our children are the future, they are the ones that will change the world into a better place. I want to be able to give them the strategies and skill set to be able to be that change. We are a Title 1 school providing free breakfast, lunch, and snacks for 450+ students (87% of which are classified as 'Economically Disadvantaged'; 35% "English Learners'" and 16% "Students with Disabilities"). Our school does not provide sets of tablets for use in the classroom. However, our students have hopes, dreams and ideas for a better tomorrow. I believe that through the use of technology our students will not only be able to reach for the stars but grab them.
