A donation with a difference

Founded by 8-year old Emily Grace Reaves (who stars as "Cindy Lou" in the Hannah Montana Movie),  Emily, along with family and friends will, on the 2nd May, celebrate the foundation's official launch with a star-studded, celebrity event at Universal CityWalk in Hollywood.
The foundation is dedicated as a tribute to Emily's grandfather Dave Reaves who came up with the idea 10 years ago. The event promises to be the biggest block party of 2009 helping to raise awareness towards 4 special charities closest to Emily's heart.  Emily believes in the power of YOUTH which is what the LOLLIPOPS symbolize.  She believes that no matter how young you are, you can make a difference. The RAINBOW symbolizes "beauty of all colors"---regardless of color or race, your true beauty lies within.

We are delighted to be able to announce that The PEACE Fund has been chosen as one of the four special charities.

Pounds for PEACE update

Adrian is currently participating in a 'Highlander' Convention in Los Angeles. As part of the convention he had the opportunity to meet a number of those participating in the 'Pounds for PEACE' initiative and receive an update on how things were progressing.

We'll shortly have a full article from Judes, (pictured right with Adrian) who is part of the convention team and indeed a very successful ''Pounds for PEACE'' participant herself. But, in the meantime, Adrian wanted to pass the following on to everyone who has and is participating.

"Congratulations to all of you
participating in ‘Pounds for PEACE’.

Adrian and Judes
I have been seeing some amazing results from some of you who participated and have heard how some of you set weekly and/or monthly goals for yourself along the way. I personally think that having a goal for something is important and whether yours was to lose a few pounds, or to help raise some extra dollars for children around the world, you have succeeded.

Everything in life is about what you want and what you want to do. I am a firm believer in putting your mind to a task and then following it through to the end. But to do that you have to set markers along the way.

When I begin a film or a project of any kind I make sure I have an “Endgame” in sight, otherwise life will try to pull my attention away from the goal I have set myself. It is important to do that if you want to succeed.

So again, thank you for your commitment and for those of you still in the program keep it up and I hope you too have your own endgame in site."

PEACE, Adrian Paul

A donation with a difference

When we, at the PEACE Fund, heard that The Relief Fund For Romania (FSC) was looking for a new website to promote their work we were happy to be able to help.

The PEACE team and FSC worked closely together to create a brand new look, the new site being available in both English and Romanian and highlighting just a small proportion of the vast amount of work undertaken by FSC.

Teachers Across Borders (Australia)
The PEACE Fund is thrilled to announce that it will be continuing to fund Teachers Across Borders out of its latest fundraising efforts.

Teachers Across Borders (Australia)
We will be donating USD$10,000 to  Teachers Across Borders (Australia), Inc which was officially affiliated with TAB USA in 2007.  The money will be used to fund 14 workshops which will be held in Battambang, Cambodia in January 2009.  Twenty three teachers from the United States, the UK and Australia will be conducting the workshops which will commence 8th January.  In all there will be 14 workshops with 320 participants.

Teachers Across Borders, Australia Inc is an international organization of teachers dedicated to the support of fellow teachers around the world.  It supports curricular development and teacher training as well as the acquisition of teaching materials and the provision of school infrastructure and technology. It provides inspiration and support for teachers working in fragile educational environments and is dedicated to improving conditions for learning in areas affected by natural disasters, poverty and warfare.

We will be receiving reports from Australian teachers in Cambodia in January.

Taking up the bake sale challenge, Carmen McGilberry, found it’s a fun way to contribute.

Together with her sister, Nikki, Carmen enjoyed an evening of baking cookies. Then it was an early start at the Columbus Farmer’s Market but Carmen quickly organised her stall with cakes donated by Holmesburg Bakery of Philadelphia, Lil Debbies donated by Carmen and her mother and the cookies baked the night before.

twins at Bake Sale

Handing out PEACE leaflets and talking to people about the work funded quickly passed time until the 5 year old twins, Arianna and Leylah, and their mother arrived to help. The Twins drew their own “Helping Hands” on the Bake Sale sign, drawing lots of complimentary attention. They then took up their placards, shouting “Help Support The PEACE Fund!" gaining more attention and quite a few donations. As the end of the market neared, everything was packed away, but a couple of last minute contributions brought the total for the day to just under $100. All in all, it was a good day (beautiful weather, nice people), so Carmen is now looking forward to the next one.

Romantic Times Convention

Recently The PEACE Fund was approached by one of its volunteers who is a teacher to ask whether we would be willing to be put forward as one of a small group of nominated charities for her classroom's Penny Harvest fund drive.  This was an excellent fit with The PEACE Fund's latest education donation via Teachers Across Borders and the active involvement of children was another very positive factor.  Camille Oakie, our Volunteer Coordinator, was the key PEACE contact.

FORUM MEMBERS RAISE MONEY FOR PEACE
The adrianpaul.net message board
Raising money for PEACE is a popular topic on Adrian's forum and on this occasion an idea, plus a significant amount of determination and team effort, resulted in over $5,300 being raised.

Adrian has issued a special message of thanks to forum members as this is an astonishing goal given the current economic climate and will make a significant difference to one of The PEACE Fund's recipients.

TERRY FOX RUN IN BUDAPEST
Adrian and Budino
The Terry Fox run is a 5k or 10k run, walk, skate or bike fund raiser for the Cancer Research Foundation in Hungary. These runs are held all around the world for Terry Fox, a Canadian, who attempted to run across Canada on an artificial leg (his leg had to be amputated after he was diagnosed with bone cancer). He called it the Marathon of Hope and wanted to raise awareness and money for cancer research in Canada.

He started the run in Newfoundland on April 12, 1980 and ran 43km a day (26 miles). On September 1, after 143 days (and 5,373 km/3,339 miles) he had to stop because the cancer had reappeared in his lungs. He died June 28, 1981, he was only 22.

Adrian and the Relief Fund for Romania
February 2008 saw Adrian come to London during a break in fiming 'Nine Miles Down' to visit the HQ for The Relief Fund for Romania and to personally hand over the donation of $10,000 on behalf of The PEACE Fund.

"I think it is a worthy cause because their work affects children who are living in the saddest of conditions.

Things don’t have to be this way and if this money helps in the slightest I am extremely proud to be a part of it and would like to express my thanks to all of those whose contributions made this donation possible " he said.

Early in the new year, Annie Christie flew to Denver to present a check for $10,000 to The PEACE Fund's newest recipients: Teachers Across Borders. "I was very impressed with the energy and passion of the people I met," said Annie. "What seemed to move them the most was actually seeing how much it meant to the Cambodian teachers to have these learning opportunities."

Ellise welcomes a bear at Christmas

Ellise and her bearPictured right is Ellise who gave a bear a lovely home for Christmas.

"Thank you so much for the gift. She was so excited when she received it. Of course I made her wait until Christmas to open it, which was probably a week or more. She could hardly stand the wait. She loves stuffed animals and she has a huge window seat full of them so the new bear fit right in.

Thanks again and I hope you had a wonderful holiday!"

Thanks to the generosity of one of The PEACE Fund's anonymous supporters, some of the COTA children who have received support from The PEACE Fund also received an early Christmas gift - a bear made especially for them from the Vermont Teddy Bear Company. Pictured here is Sophia, who now has a friend almost as big as she is! Elijah Vang

Elijah and his bear

Pictured right is Elijah. We were touched to receive a letter from his family, which we would like to share with you.

"Hi, I am the parent of Elijah Vang, one of COTA'S kids. We recently received a gift from you for Elijah. I would like to say Thank You for your generosity and wonderful gift you sent for Elijah.  He took the bear with him to school to show his teacher.  He was very excited about receiving the gift. Thank you for making Elijah's  Christmas bright this year and for caring about COTA children. Attached  is a photo of Elijah holding the teddy bear.  Elijah is 2 years post transplant and is doing well so far.  I thank God for answering all my prayers.

Thanks again for the beautiful gift."
